Memminger School of Global Studies

Memminger is a school of Global Studies-a University Partnership school that began in the fall of 2009.

"If we are to achieve a richer culture, rich in contrasting values, we must recognize the whole gamut of human potentialities, and so weave a less arbitrary social fabric, one in which each diverse human gift will find a fitting place."
Margaret Mead

Memminger is in the news!
Great things are happening at Memminger School of Global Studies! The following article appears in the January 5th edition of the Charleston Regional Business Journal.

Children at Memminger Elementary School are participating in yoga classes as part of their physical education. The Charleston-based mobile yoga studio Yoga Benefits has launched Yoga Benefits Kids as a curriculum-based program that emphasizes literacy and international awareness.

The program targets at-risk children in the area. Yoga Benefits Kids integrates physical education, foreign language, social and international studies into each lesson. The intent is to teach students ways to cope with stresses and challenges.

“We already have clear evidence that yoga programs have an extremely positive impact on the students in our schools,” said Clara Heinsohn, director of public affairs and volunteers for Charleston County School District. “Yoga Benefits uses the knowledge we have about the progress that yoga lessons facilitate and takes their program a step further. This program offers an educational experience with every lesson and truly fosters the students’ needs for love and support.”

International Teacher Exchange Services, a global company based in Charlotte that provides cultural exchange for educators, made a financial contribution to the program.

Check out Ways to Help Earn $$$$ for Memminger

1.  Memminger can earn up to $20,000 from the Box Tops for Education program.  Be sure to clip your Box Tops from popular cereals and household items, bring them into school and drop in the drop-off box in the office.

2. Recycle your old cell phones, ink jet and laser jet cartridges at Memminger.  We earn points to use toward resources for our school, thanks to Funding Factory.

Please do not use Vickery's Parking Lot as a drive through when picking up or dropping off your students.  Principal Dixon has met with the Charleston County Police Department and they are working with our school to establish safe and efficient drop off procedures for our school.  We will keep you posted on the status of our traffic issues.
