  1. What inspired you to become a school counselor? What do you love most about your role in a school?
    • Ms. Lentz: After spending 12 years in the classroom, I realized that my passion extended beyond academics- I wanted to support students in all aspects of their growth. I saw firsthand how important it is for children to have a trusted adult advocating for their well-being, both in and out of the classroom. Becoming a school counselor allowed me to build deeper relationships with students and their families, ensuring they feel supported, heard, and empowered. What I love most about being a school counselor is the opportunity to build positive, trusting relationships with students. Knowing that they see me as a safe person to talk to and that I can advocate for them and their families is incredibly fulfilling. I strive to create a supportive environment where every student feels valued and understood, helping them navigate challenges and develop the confidence to succeed.
    • Mrs. Rhodes: My mom was a teacher, so I’ve always been immersed in the world of education. I was drawn to the school counseling field because I have a passion for helping students succeed - academically, socially, and emotionally. In becoming a school counselor, I knew I’d be able to help serve an entire school rather than just one classroom!

What I love most about being in a school is the ability to provide a safe space for students to talk about challenges, help them develop coping skills, and guide them toward achieving their goals. I also enjoy collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a positive school environment where our students thrive!

  2. How do you support students in achieving their academic, personal, and college/career goals?
    • Ms. Lentz: As an elementary school counselor, I support students in achieving their academic, personal, and future college/career goals by fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment. I promote a growth mindset by helping students understand that challenges are opportunities to learn and grow. I encourage perseverance in learning, teaching them that effort and resilience lead to success. I foster a safe, trusting environment where students feel valued and supported. By building strong relationships and providing a space where they feel comfortable expressing themselves, I help them develop confidence and emotional well-being. I encourage goal-setting and a sense of personal achievement by guiding students to set realistic and meaningful goals. Whether academic, social, or personal, these goals help them build lifelong skills in responsibility, motivation, and self-improvement.
    • Mrs. Rhodes: As an elementary school counselor, I support students in their academic, personal, and college/career goals by focusing on building strong academic foundations, developing social-emotional skills, and encouraging students’ curiosity about future possibilities. I believe fostering a safe and trusting environment goes hand in hand with student success academically, socially, and emotionally!
  3. What encouragement do you want to offer students and families to help them succeed?
    • Ms. Lentz: As an elementary school counselor, I want to encourage students and families by reminding them that success comes from perseverance, support, and believing in one another. To Students- You are capable! Mistakes are part of learning, and every challenge helps you grow. Keep trying, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. To Families- Stay connected! Working together creates the best support system for your child’s success. Your encouragement and involvement make a powerful difference in their growth and confidence. No matter what challenges arise, students and families are never alone. With perseverance, trust, and teamwork, success is always within reach.
    • Mrs. Rhodes: For students, I want to remind you that you are smart and capable, important, and full of potential. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, try new things, and believe in yourself. Hard work, perseverance, and most importantly, kindness, will take you far!

For families, your love and support make a world of difference in your child’s success and collaboration with your student’s school/stakeholders is key. We want to work together to ensure each of our students excels not only academically, but socially and emotionally too! Together, we can create a supportive and encouraging environment where every child thrives!
